In recent years, the number of migrant workers in Israel has increased significantly, reaching nearly 300,000 by the first quarter of 2026. The vast majority of these workers come from Asian countries, including India, Thailand, China, and the Philippines, and are employed primarily in the nursing, construction, and agricultural sectors.
In response to both the growing number of migrant workers and the challenges they face, the Fritz Naphtali Foundation, in cooperation with the Histadrut and the Macro Center for Political Economics, is supporting a comprehensive survey of migrant workers in Israel. The survey examines working conditions, employer-employee relations, social integration, and workers’ satisfaction with wages, housing conditions, social rights, and the recruitment fees they paid to secure employment.
The survey findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of the experiences and challenges faced by migrant workers and will help inform evidence-based policy recommendations aimed at improving their well-being, strengthening labor market outcomes, and promoting sustainable economic growth.
As part of its ongoing commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of migrant workers, the Fritz Naphtali Foundation also supported a special appreciation event hosted by the Histadrut. The event brought together more than 200 migrant workers from diverse countries of origin who are employed across a wide range of sectors, including construction, agriculture, commerce, industry, and hospitality.
Held in recognition of migrant workers’ invaluable contribution to Israeli society and the economy, the event also provided participants with information about the Histadrut’s services and emphasized that they can turn to the organization for assistance, guidance, and support whenever needed.
